A native of New York City, Darlene was born in Harlem and raised in the Bronx. A writer and elementary school educator, she was the contributing writer for Googles, February 1, 2024, Google Doodle of her uncle, James Baldwin.The power of words has always held an intimate draw for her. With a portfolio of fiction and nonfiction essays along with short stories, she is working on her first narrative nonfiction, The Path to Resilience. It is one man’s personal journey through ten-years of federal incarceration. As Darlene prepares for her debut published book, she is also working on a fiction manuscript. Her narratives are deeply driven by emotion and she offers readers a visual passage ingrained in her prose.
